Jan Plovsing, born on May 15, 1945, in Frederiksberg, is a Danish sociologist and served as the Chief Statistician of Denmark from 1995 to 2013. He succeeded Hans Zeuthen and was followed by Jørgen Elmeskov. Plovsing completed his secondary education in mathematics at Østre Borgerdydskole in 1964 and studied sociology at the University of Copenhagen, earning a degree in 1972. He held various academic positions, including researcher and lecturer, before becoming the director at the Social Research Institute and ultimately serving as the Chief Statistician.
