He became a member of Gustav Brom's Orchestra in 1956 and was known for his contributions to music education. Hnilička was also an inventor, creating the hnilofon, a musical instrument he presented in 1971. He passed away on December 7, 2016, in Brno, leaving behind a legacy in the Czech music scene.
