Jean-Luc Blanche, known as The Backpacker Rapist, is a French serial rapist and thief born in February 1958. He committed his crimes by breaking into victims' homes at night, binding them, and then driving them to remote areas where he raped them. After his first series of rapes, he was imprisoned from 1992 until 2002. Although released, he resumed his attacks in 2003, which caught national attention and led to the creation of an automated judicial file for sexual offenders.
