Jeffrey C. Hall, born on May 3, 1945, is an American geneticist known for his work in circadian biology. Currently retired and residing in Maine, Hall has dedicated his research to studying the nervous system and its behaviors, particularly through the analysis of black fruit fly behavior. His groundbreaking work revealed essential mechanisms of sexual differentiation in the nervous system. He was elected to the National Academy of Sciences and, along with Michael Young and Michael Rosbash, received the 2017 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine for their significant discoveries regarding the molecular mechanisms regulating biological rhythms.
