Dame Jennifer Mary Shipley, born on February 4, 1952, is a former New Zealand politician who served as the 36th Prime Minister from 1997 to 1999. She was New Zealand's first female Prime Minister and the only woman to lead the National Party. Born in Gore and raised in rural Canterbury, she was educated at Marlborough Girls' College and Christchurch College of Education. Before entering politics, she worked as a teacher and was involved in various community organizations. Shipley held several ministerial roles before becoming Prime Minister and later became a business and charitable leader.
