Onderstall chaired the Lowveld branch of the Botanical Society of South Africa for many years. She authored notable wildflower guides, enhanced by her photographs. Additionally, she played a vital role in preserving ecologically significant grassland and contributed valuable knowledge to research facilities before her passing on March 28, 2016, in Nelspruit.
