Joan Konner was an influential American academic and journalist, known for her role as the first female Dean of the Columbia School of Journalism. Born Joan Barbara Weiner on February 24, 1931, she graduated from Sarah Lawrence College and earned her M.S. from Columbia University. Konner worked with the Bergen Record and was recognized for producing over 50 documentaries, including the acclaimed PBS series The Power of Myth. She held the deanship from 1988 to 1996 and served as the publisher of the Columbia Journalism Review from 1988 to 1999.
