João Muniz Alves is a Brazilian Franciscan cleric and Roman Catholic bishop of Xingu-Altamira. He joined the Franciscan Order and took his temporary vows on February 2, 1986, before taking perpetual vows on January 14, 1991. He was ordained a priest on September 4, 1993. Appointed bishop of the Territorial Prelature of Xingu by Pope Francis on December 23, 2015, he was consecrated on March 5, 2016. Following the establishment of the Diocese of Xingu-Altamira, he became its first diocesan bishop on November 6, 2019, and was installed on February 1, 2020.
