Alan John 'Jock' Marshall (1911-1967) was an Australian writer, academic, and ornithologist notable for his contributions to natural history and zoology. Despite losing an arm in a shooting accident, he participated in several natural history expeditions and served in World War II. He held prominent positions in academia, including Reader in zoology at St Bartholomew's and foundation professor at Monash University. Known as 'Jock the Backyard Naturalist' on radio, he published numerous works and received various honors for his contributions to ornithology and science.
