His career included roles as a lecturer at Oriel College and roles at Nuffield College and the Bank of England, where he served as Chief Adviser and Executive Director. Flemming was also the Chief Economist of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development. He was a Fellow of the British Academy and received a CBE for his contributions to economics.
