John G. McKnight was an influential American businessman and engineer, known for co-founding the Magnetic Reference Laboratory (MRL) where he served as engineering vice-president and then president. He had a notable career at Ampex from 1952 to 1972, contributing significantly to audio engineering and magnetic recording technologies. McKnight also served on an advisory panel regarding the White House tapes during the Nixon era. He was recognized with several awards from the Audio Engineering Society for his technical contributions and service. McKnight passed away on November 5, 2022.
