Jordi Pons Sanginés is a Catalan mountaineer born in Barcelona on January 5, 1933. He is considered a pioneer of modern climbing in Catalonia and Spain, with notable ascents including the north face of the Eiger and the Walker Spur of the Grandes Jorasses. In 1982, he joined the first Catalan expedition to Everest, documented in the film Everest 82. He also opened the first direct climbing route on Siula Grande in 1963. Pons is a prolific filmmaker, with over twenty documentaries on climbing, many awarded at film festivals.
