Jorge López Sotomayor is a Chilean film and theater director born in Santiago, Chile, on November 4, 1952. The eldest of six siblings, he studied at Saint George's College and graduated from The Grange School in 1971. In 1973, he adapted the musical Jesus Christ Superstar for Chilean theaters, but its performances were interrupted due to the military coup. He shifted to film, adapting El último grumete de la Baquedano in 1983 and later founded a cultural heritage program, Visiones, which aired until 1999, before directing films like XS in 2003 and Patagonia de los Sueños in 2014.
