He studied music at the Escuela Elemental de Música and the Conservatorio Nacional de Música in Santo Domingo, as well as at the Conservatorio de Música de Puerto Rico. He has participated in various music festivals and served as the musical director for many television programs. Taveras is regarded as one of the most significant figures in the commercial music industry in the Dominican Republic.
