Josep Grañó Ortega was a Catalan mountaineer and doctor born on February 20, 1956, in Sant Boi de Llobregat. He participated as a doctor in the Karakorum 87 expedition to Broad Peak in 1987 and authored 'Expedició Karakorum: Broad Peak Central: projecte mèdic'. Tragically, on August 18, 1990, he lost his life during the Olesa - Hidden Peak'90 expedition in Pakistan after reaching an altitude of 7,400 meters. A memorial monolith commemorating his and fellow climber Albert Ibáñez's memory stands in Olesa de Montserrat, inaugurated on May 12, 1991.
