Joseph Baldi, known as The Queens Creeper, was an American serial killer who operated in Queens, New York City, between 1970 and 1972. He was responsible for the stabbings of four women and girls. Baldi had a history of mental illness, had been treated at Creedmoor State Hospital, and was released erroneously, allowing him to commit additional crimes. Eventually convicted, he was sentenced to a lengthy imprisonment, serving at Sing Sing until his death in 2009. His case sparked significant public outrage regarding the release of mentally ill offenders, highlighting flaws in the criminal justice system.
