He was a habilitated doctor of economic sciences at the University of Economics in Katowice, focusing primarily on econometrics, statistics, and finance. He completed his master's degree in 1965 and defended his doctoral dissertation in 1971. From 1981 to 1987, he served as the director of the Institute of Econometrics at the Academy of Economics in Katowice and contributed to the establishment of the 'Solidarity' trade union at the institution.
