Karel Freund was a Czech hockey referee born on February 16, 1925, in Halámky. He survived the Holocaust, losing much of his family during the war. After training as a waiter, he became a hockey referee in 1946 after moving to Karlovy Vary. He officiated games until 1990 and continued to work in the sport as a timekeeper. Freund received recognition for his contributions to hockey and was honored with titles such as sports legend and induction into the regional Hall of Fame. He was also involved in local politics during his later years.
