Over her career, she contributed to various programs, including Lykkeboden, Søndagsosten, and Du verden. Haugen played a significant role in the development of NRK's new radio channel P2 in the 1980s. Her contributions to media earned her multiple accolades, including the Eidsvold Værks skogpris and Den norske friluftslivprisen. She became an honorary member of Norsk Bonde- og Småbrukarlag in 2015.
