Katsumi Namekata is a Japanese haiku poet, born on June 2, 1944, in Yachimata, Chiba Prefecture. Influenced by his mother, he began composing tanka in 1960 and started submitting poetry. He graduated from Chiba High School in 1963 and Keio University in 1968, where he was mentored by Toshio Kiyosaki. He has been teaching at Keio Shihan Junior High School since 1973. Namekata received multiple awards and co-founded the journal 'Chiin' in 1996, with a representative haiku being 'What time is it now in this lifetime, sardine clouds.'
