Kees Schouhamer Immink is a Dutch engineer and information theorist, born on December 18, 1946. He is widely considered the father of the CD, DVD, and Blu-ray disc. His work has had such a significant impact that it is nearly impossible to enjoy any digital sound or video without his involvement. In recognition of his contributions to the field, he was awarded an honorary doctorate by the University of Johannesburg in 2014.
