Kōshō Shimizu (1911-1999) was a prominent Japanese monk of the Kegon sect, known for his unique artistic contributions in calligraphy and ceramics. Born in Himeji, he revitalized the Tōdaiji temple, serving as its chief priest and overseeing the major restoration of the Great Buddha Hall. He created small clay Buddhist figures called 'Dorobutoke' and was also an educator, founding schools and serving as the principal of Tōdaiji Gakuen. He was honored as an honorary director at the Himeji City Museum of Fine Arts.
