Krasimir Stoyanov is a Bulgarian cosmonaut and colonel, born on January 24, 1961, in Varna. He graduated from a shipbuilding school and the Georgi Benkovski Air Force Academy. Stoyanov served as a fighter pilot in the Bulgarian Air Force before being selected as a backup cosmonaut for the Soyuz TM-5 mission. He worked in various capacities in space research, including as chief engineer and assistant director at Bulgaria's space research institutes. Stoyanov has maintained engagement in aeronautics and has expressed the diminishing prospects for future Bulgarian space flights after the fall of communism.
