Sir Lloyd George Geering (born 26 February 1918) is a prominent New Zealand theologian recognized for his progressive views on religion. He faced heresy charges in 1967 for claiming that the biblical accounts of Jesus' death and resurrection are not factual. Geering critiques both Christian and Muslim fundamentalism, labeling them social evils. He served as an emeritus professor of religious studies at Victoria University of Wellington and was appointed a Member of the Order of New Zealand in 2007, acknowledging his significant contributions, especially as he celebrated his centenary in February 2018.
