Luc Michel is a Belgian surgeon born on February 28, 1947, in Brussels. He founded the general, abdominal, and endocrine surgery department at the U.C.L. Mont-Godinne in 1982. As a professor at the Catholic University of Louvain, he was one of the founding members of the European Society of Surgery (ESS) in 1997 and served as its secretary general until 2007. He gained media attention in 2011 for his publications on the public health impact of the Chernobyl disaster. Additionally, he has contributed significantly to bioethics and risk management in clinical settings.
