Lya Bastian Meyer was a Brazilian professor, dancer, and choreographer born on January 23, 1911, in Porto Alegre. She was a pioneer of classical dance in the state of Rio Grande do Sul. After studying in Europe, she founded her dance school in 1934 and later led the Escola Oficial de Dança do Theatro São Pedro. She significantly contributed to the growth of classical dance, overcoming social stigmas, and mentoring future dance leaders. Known for her artistic expression and innovative techniques, she published a book on rhythmic gymnastics and received notable accolades throughout her career. Lya passed away in 2005.
