Mahinda Balasuriya (June 18, 1953 - April 29, 2021) was the 32nd Inspector General of Police in Sri Lanka from 2009 to 2011. Educated at Ananda College, Colombo, he held various prominent positions within the police force. Balasuriya was instrumental in launching emergency police services and oversaw areas affected by conflict. He attained a PhD in terrorism and national security from Saint Petersburg State University in 2010. After resigning in 2011, he served as ambassador to Brazil and the UAE, and later as Secretary of the Ministry of Law and Order.
