She is the daughter of Dejazmach Habte Mariam Gebre-Igziabiher and Woizero Yeshimebet Guma, with familial ties to the Welega Kingdom. Mahisente is the mother of Prince Ermias Sahle Selassie, the current President of the Crown Council of Ethiopia, and has worked for many years with UNICEF. She currently resides in Washington D.C. and is the last surviving daughter-in-law of Emperor Haile Selassie.
