Mahnaz Afkhami is an Iranian women's rights activist born on January 14, 1941, who served as the Minister of Women's Affairs in the Iranian cabinet from 1976 to 1978. A founder of the Women's Learning Partnership and the Iranian Studies Foundation, she has lived in exile in the United States since 1979. Afkhami has been a strong advocate for women's rights since the 1970s, establishing several international NGOs to enhance women's status in Iran and beyond, and has published extensively on international feminism, women's leadership, and the role of women in civil society.
