Marcello Costa was an Italian-born Australian medical researcher and public health advocate, known for his expertise in the enteric nervous system. He had a significant academic presence, teaching in Turino, Melbourne, and Helsinki, before establishing himself in Adelaide in 1975 as a foundation lecturer at Flinders Medical School. Costa was named the Matthew Flinders Distinguished Professor of Neurophysiology at Flinders University until his retirement in 2021. He co-founded multiple neuroscience organizations and received various accolades, including the Officer of the Order of Australia and the Australian Centenary Medal.
