Mari-Ann Karupää is an Estonian journalist and public figure born on December 29, 1937, in Pärnu. She fled to Germany in 1944 to escape the war and moved to Sweden with her father in 1947. In 1963, she became the first foreigner to pass the Swedish academic journalism exam. Karupää earned a philology degree from Stockholm University in 1965. She worked as a journalist in Sweden and was involved in elderly care development. In 1991, she returned to Estonia and has been the director of the Gustav Wulff-Õie Museum since 1996.
