María Esther Ortiz Salazar was a Mexican nuclear physicist born on April 18, 1936, in Mexico City. She was the second woman to graduate with a degree in physics in Mexico, after Alejandra Jáidar. Ortiz Salazar was also among the first women to earn a master's and doctoral degree in Physics from the National Autonomous University of Mexico. She played a significant role in the early developments of nuclear physics in Mexico and contributed to the advancement of the nuclear matter equation of state.
