Marjorie Shostak (May 11, 1945 – October 6, 1996) was an American ethnologist known for her studies on the !Kung San people in the Kalahari Desert, South-West Africa. Growing up in Brooklyn, New York, she earned a degree in literature before immersing herself in ethnographic research. Her seminal work, 'Nisa: The Life and Words of a Kung Woman' (1981), innovatively combines ethnographic observations and the personal narrative of Nisa, granting voice to her subject. Shostak's work reflects a significant contribution to postcolonial ethnography and culture studies.
