Martin Dreher is a German ancient historian born on March 20, 1953, in Karlsruhe. He earned his Ph.D. in 1982 at the University of Marburg with a thesis on sophistry and city development. Dreher later became a staff member at the University of Munich and an assistant to Wolfgang Schuller at the University of Konstanz, where he habilitated in 1991. He was a professor of Ancient History at Otto von Guericke University Magdeburg from 1996 until his retirement in 2018. His research interests include inter-state relations, legal history, and ancient Sicily.
