Masaki Urahoto was a prominent Japanese ornithologist born on February 11, 1931, in Tokyo. After graduating from the University of Tokyo in 1953 and completing doctoral studies at the former Tokyo Metropolitan University, he became a research fellow at the Yamashina Institute in 1960. Urahoto served as a professor at Wako University from 1977 until his retirement in 2000, becoming an emeritus professor thereafter. He received several prestigious awards for his contributions, including the Mainichi Publishing Culture Award and the Japan Ornithological Society Award. He published numerous works on birds.
