Colonel Michael Joseph Buckley Jr. was an American Army officer known for being the first American prisoner of war during World War II. He was captured by German forces at Tobruk on November 23, 1941, just before the United States officially entered the war after the Pearl Harbor attack on December 7, 1941. His capture came during a critical time as global conflicts were escalating and marked a significant moment in the early years of the war.
