Miep Gies, born Hermine Santrouschitz on February 15, 1909, in Vienna, was a key figure during World War II, known for helping hide Anne Frank and others in Amsterdam. After being adopted by a Dutch family, she worked for Otto Frank’s business and married Jan Gies. Together with a group, she provided food and news to the Jewish fugitives from July 1942 until their arrest in August 1944. She safeguarded Anne's diary, which was published posthumously. Gies received several honors for her bravery, including Yad Vashem recognition, and lived to be 100 years old.
