He competed for Scotland at the British Empire and Commonwealth Games in 1958, where he finished sixth in the mile run. In 1962, he placed eighth in the 1500 meters at the European Athletics Championships held in Belgrade, although he was eliminated in the heats at the Commonwealth Games in Perth the same year. His athletic career highlights include participation at major international competitions.
