Montserrat Maspons i Bigas was a Catalan cultural promoter born in Guayaquil on January 13, 1921. After losing her mother at six months, she studied in Barcelona and married in 1944. She returned to Granollers and later settled in Ecuador, where she engaged in pottery. In 1959, she introduced a version of 'Els Pastorets' at the Institute of Hispano Culture. A lifelong president of the Casal Català de Guayaquil since 1983, she reinforced ties between Catalonia and Latin America. The Catalan Government awarded her the Creu de Sant Jordi in 2013.
