Mzekala Shanidze (born January 16, 1926, Tbilisi) is a prominent Georgian linguist and philologist. She graduated from Tbilisi State University in 1948 and became a senior teacher, lecturer, PhD, and professor at the same institution starting in 1953. Her scholarly contributions include over 100 publications, such as 'Old Georgian Grammatical Treatise' (1990) and a description of newly discovered Georgian manuscripts (2005). Shanidze is an academician of the National Academy of Sciences of Georgia, a member of the Supreme Council from 1990-1991, and recipient of several prestigious awards.
