Naomi Shihab Nye, born on March 12, 1952, in St. Louis, Missouri, is a Palestinian-American poet, songwriter, and novelist. She is the child of a Palestinian father and an American mother. Nye began writing poetry at the age of six and has published over 30 volumes of poetry, stories, and novels. Though she considers herself a 'wandering poet,' she refers to San Antonio as her home. Her work often explores themes of cultural similarities and differences, notably in her first poetry collection, 'Different Ways to Pray' (1980).
