Neil F. Comins is an American astronomer and essayist born in New York in 1951. He earned a B.A. from Cornell University and a Ph.D. in physics from the University of Maryland. In the 1970s, he studied general relativity with Bernard Schutz. Comins has been teaching astronomy at the University of Maine since 1978 and has conducted significant research in theoretical galaxy modeling and general relativity. He contributed to the textbook 'Discovering the Universe' and has written about scientific inaccuracies in popular media. Comins resides in Bangor, Maine, with his family.
