Neila Sathyalingam was a renowned Singaporean classical Indian dancer and choreographer of Sri Lankan Tamil origin. An alumna of Kalakshetra, she emigrated to Singapore in 1974 and co-founded Apsaras Arts. As a choreographer, she played a significant role in promoting Indian dance and served as a resident choreographer for the People's Association. Neila was a transformative figure in dance, known for her innovative works that merged tradition with modernity. She received the Singaporean Cultural Medallion for her contributions to the arts and became a citizen in 1994.
