Nerses Bedros XIX Tarmouni is the Catholicos Patriarch of Cilicia for Armenian Catholics, born in Cairo, Egypt in 1940. He is the fifth of eight children of pious parents originally from Mardin. After completing his primary and secondary education in Christian Brotherhood schools in Cairo, he entered the Pontifical Armenian College in Rome in 1958. He was ordained a priest on August 15, 1965, and served in various parishes in Cairo. He became a bishop on February 18, 1990, and was appointed as the archbishop of the Diocese of Alexandria for Egypt and Sudan.
