Nicholas Ridley, Baron Ridley of Liddesdale (February 17, 1929 - March 4, 1993) was a British former Chancellor of the Exchequer. He was a strong supporter of Conservative Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher, known as the Iron Lady. Ridley held several ministerial positions in Thatcher's governments during the 1980s, including Secretary of State for Trade and Chancellor of the Exchequer. He was forced to resign on July 14, 1990, after an interview in The Spectator where he criticized the European monetary and economic union, describing it as a German missile aimed at dominating Europe.
