Nil Parent, born on October 6, 1945, is a composer and professor at Laval University. He specializes in electronic music and founded Canada's first francophone electroacoustic composition studio in 1969, known as the Studio de musique électronique de l’Université Laval (SMEUL). Additionally, he established the Groupe d'interprétation de musique électroacoustique de Laval (GIMEL) in 1973 and the Société de musique expérimentale de Québec (SMEQ) in 1974.
