Norman Harry Poole was a British soldier known for his significant contributions during World War II. On D-Day, he was one of the first allied soldiers to land on occupied territory in 1944. For his bravery during the invasion and subsequent evasion of enemy capture for six weeks, he was awarded the Military Cross. He served with the Hampshire Regiment, became an instructor with the Parachute Regiment, and later transferred to the 1st Special Air Service Regiment. Poole was born in Winchester and educated at Peter Symonds College.
