Nurmatias, born on February 15, 1924, in Payakumbuh, West Sumatra, was a significant military figure and independence fighter in Indonesia. He served as the Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of Indonesia to Australia from 1976 to 1979. Actively involved in military actions during the Dutch Military Aggression, he was a contemporary of other notable military figures. Despite his participation in political movements in the 1950s, he opposed armed rebellion against the central government. He continued his military career, achieving the rank of Major General before retiring.
