Odilo Lechner was a prominent German Benedictine monk, priest, and abbey leader, remembered for his long tenure as the abbot of St. Boniface Abbey in Munich and Andechs. Born as Hans Helmut Lechner on January 25, 1931, in Munich, he devoted his life to monasticism after being ordained a priest in 1956. He served as abbot from 1967 until his resignation in 2003, notable for rebuilding the bombed St. Boniface Basilica and promoting spiritual theology. He authored numerous works focusing on spirituality and lived out his faith until his death on November 3, 2017.
