Olafs Stumbrs was a Latvian poet born on February 26, 1931, in Riga and passed away on March 18, 1996, in Los Angeles, USA. He emigrated to Germany in 1944 and then to the US in 1950, where he studied sociology. Stumbrs published his first poetry in the early 1950s and earned acclaim for his debut collection 'Etīdes,' receiving the Zinaīdas Lazdas Award in 1961. Involved with Latvian theater in the US, he collaborated with other writers and participated actively in cultural life, also visiting occupied Latvia. He was a member of the Latvian Writers' Union.
